AI Usage Disclosure
Northstar Business uses third-party AI providers to generate measurements, narratives, and content-authoring assistance for tenants. This page explains exactly which providers, what data flows to each, why, and what guarantees we have. We publish this in plain language because we think anyone using an AI-assisted product deserves to know.
Why this page exists
The product is open about using AI. We use it to summarize what we measure, to draft posts on tenant request, to extract structured signals from web content, and to give tenants suggestions they can accept or reject. Three things follow from that:
- Some tenant data is sent to AI providers, so tenants should know who and why.
- AI output can be wrong, so tenants should review before publishing — this page makes that expectation explicit.
- App review processes (Meta, Google) increasingly look for AI-specific transparency, so a dedicated disclosure is the right shape.
How we use AI
Inside Northstar Business, AI shows up in a handful of places:
- Presence narratives — structured summaries of a tenant's online presence (search visibility, reviews, trust signals, etc.) generated from the measurements the platform collects.
- Posting composer — tenants compose posts (photo + notes); on request, an AI provider drafts the post body and metadata from the supplied inputs. Tenants edit before publishing.
- Website analysis — an AI provider reviews the rendered HTML of pages the tenant owns and suggests improvements.
- Content extraction — an AI provider helps extract structured signals (such as keywords, business attributes, or red flags) from text the tenant has explicitly given us or from public web pages they have authorized us to read.
AI is not used to make automated decisions about credit, eligibility, identity, or anything that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
What data we send to AI providers
For each AI call we send only the input needed for that specific request. Concretely:
- Business description, service areas, and similar tenant-supplied facts.
- Photos the tenant has uploaded, when a vision-capable model is needed.
- Measurements we have already computed (scores, counts, flags).
- Public web content the tenant has authorized us to analyze (for example, the homepage of their own website).
We do not send authentication credentials, payment information, third-party OAuth tokens, internal logs, other tenants' data, or any of our own subprocessor credentials to AI providers.
Training data — we say no
We use AI providers through their commercial API offerings. The API terms of each provider we use commit them to not use customer API content to train their models. We rely on that contractual commitment, and we do not opt in to any "data improvement" or "model training" toggle that would change it.
If a provider changes that posture, or introduces a setting that we believe weakens the commitment, we will either turn the feature off, switch providers, or revise this page and notify tenants. We watch for this.

We update this list when providers change. If we add a new provider, we add it here before sending data to it.
Human review and accountability
AI output is probabilistic and can be wrong. Tenants are the source of truth for their own business; AI is a helper. Our platform is built around this:
- Posts drafted by AI go into a tenant-editable composer before they can be published.
- Suggestions from AI surface as suggestions, not auto-actions.
- We attempt to ground AI narratives in verified facts the tenant has provided, and we surface "no data" honestly rather than fabricate.
If you find an AI output that misrepresents your business, please tell us at [email protected]. We treat AI-output complaints as a signal that something is wrong with our prompts or grounding, and we fix it.
Your choices
- Skip AI features. AI-assisted features in Northstar Business are optional. You can author posts and use the measurement surfaces without invoking the AI-assist actions.
- Decline AI output. Anything AI proposes is editable and rejectable before it goes anywhere external.
- Ask us not to send your data to a specific provider. Reach [email protected]. Most features have a primary provider and a fallback; we can usually accommodate a per-tenant provider exclusion.
- Delete your account per the Data Deletion Instructions. Once your account is deleted, no further AI calls happen on your behalf.
Changes
When we add or remove an AI provider, or materially change how a provider is used, we update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top. The current version is always at northstardata.com/ai-usage/.
